Why World Vision is in China
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, sponsors may experience delays in communication from their sponsored child. We are actively working to keep you updated as the situation changes.
As the first country to identify and respond to the COVID-19 virus, China was able to reopen many parts of its economy and society before the end of 2020. In the summer, severe floods in southern China affected over 63 million people, and vulnerable communities are still recovering from the impact. Millions of children are at risk of harm from the effects of urban migration: Parents who travel from their rural villages to look for work in cities often leave their children with relatives or alone, or children accompany their parents into the cities but aren’t well supervised. When school schedules and travel opportunities were restricted due to the pandemic, these children’s vulnerability increased.
With support from partners, our staff are working to promote child protection efforts among vulnerable communities. Children are learning about their rights to be protected from all kinds of harm, and families are receiving training on topics like early childhood development and loving parenting methods. Communities are getting resources for improving their sanitation facilities along with information about better hygiene behavior and nutrition practices so children can grow up healthier.

- Children and families learned how better hygiene is critical to preventing illness. They also learned how to treat childhood illnesses.
Education for Better Lives
Children have opportunities to learn and to develop their talents, young people are equipped for the future, and families and communities support children's education.
- New books and resources in several schools are helping students improve their reading and writing skills.
- Children are empowered to take the lead in improving their communities. Some kids are working on preventing bullying while others are focused on protecting the environment by recycling.

World Vision's staff in China are asking us to join them in prayer for the following:
For the 100 million children affected by urban migration who are living without their parents and are more vulnerable to harm, and that World Vision would be a channel of love and hope to them.
For the well-being of children with disabilities, that they’ll be protected from COVID-19 and that local social services would be equipped to care for them well.
For God to grant the leaders of Colombia wisdom to make fullness of life for children a reality, especially through the resolution of the violent social unrest and the migratory crisis.
